bronia
les ballets de monte-carlo - kor’sia (2025)
original music & sound design
Bronislava Nijinska, Bronia to those closest to her, was a daughter, sister, wife, lover, and mother of dancers. A creator, educator, performer, repetiteur, and dance writer.
In Bronia’s life, everything was deeply connected to the walls of a theater. It was in that space where she challenged the artistic conventions of her time, achieving a masterful balance between abstraction and emotion, always in harmony with the avant-gardes of the era. However, the theater was not only her creative refuge, but also the place where she rebelled against the limits society imposed on her due to her gender. In a world dominated by male figures, often overshadowed by the fame of her brother Vaslav Nijinsky and under the influence of Serguei Diaghilev, Nijinska dared to defy expectations, making the stage and dance spaces of resistance.
Demonstrated that women could also be visionaries and leaders in this field. Despite her undeniable contribution, Nijinska’s legacy was for a long time relegated to oblivion. However, her mark never fully disappeared, and today, new generations of choreographers, dancers, and performers are rediscovering her work as a universe full of possibilities. Not only because it offers new ways of doing and understanding, but also because it invites us to question the status quo and challenge the limitations imposed. Mattia Russo and Antonio de Rosa/Kor’sia with dramaturgy by Agnès López-Río presents this work in one of the spaces where Nijinska herself lived and created, paying homage to her legacy as a transgressive woman and to her unbreakable connection with what was her life: the theater.
Bronia, the indomitable spirit, returns to this stage to continue inspiring us to challenge boundaries, to reinvent the world, and to reclaim the power of art as a tool for resistance and change.
